[This is an item that my grandfather Jesse Hibbard wrote in 1908 (when almost 15). He made a few brief edits afterwards and these are in ((double-parentheses)). My (Al) role was to first transcribe it, next to add corrections or clarifications [within brackets], and then to add links to people connected to me (that gives more information), links to give more information about places, and for those mentioned but not connected, I sometimes added links to FamilySearch.org.]

History of Hibbard family as far as known
By one of the same
Howard Horatio Hibbard was born in Franklin County, New York [actually, close by, but Stockholm, St. Lawrence County ] in 1854, Nov. 28. His mother was born in Vermont and his father in New Hampshire [most likely Quebec, instead]. His mothers name before marriage was Drusilla Grimes. He had one brother Herman and three sisters Jane, Melissa, and Emily. At the age of nine [or seven, 1861], his [Howard's] family moved to Moira in northern New York [Franklin County]. Herman came west and hunted and worked there for a while. When he returned he told of the fine country there and the family decided to come west to St. Cloud, Minnesota in 1871 [when Howard H. was 17]. They lived in Palmer Township for a short time and then moved to Haven Township on the banks of Elk River. [This was the Hartman farm in the 1930’s.] Howard Hibbard married [5 Nov 1876] at the age of 21 a girl by the name of Roseanne Doran. Her parents were born in Ireland and she was born in Maryland, Havre de Grace, City of. When young her family moved to Wilmington, Delaware, where her mother ((whose name before marriage was Bridget Guthrie)) [other records of Jesse he wrote Margaret Guthrie, but I think Bridget is correct] died when she was eight years old. She [Rose] had nine sisters, most of whom are dead. [Actually, 5 sisters, 1 brother and only one was dead at this time. I am quite sure Jesse did not know his uncle William Doran Mullin, 30 years younger than his mother, Rose, and 6 years older than him.] One, Margaret married a rich man in North Dakota. Another, Kate married a man in Brooklyn, N. York, by the name of Frost. The others name is Pierce [referring to sister Margaret's husband - also end of first page]. She [arrow points to] ((Roseann)) went to live with her aunt and uncle, Mary and Hugh Mulligan, both from Ireland. With them, she traveled to California by way of Panama. They lived in California, Oregon, and Vancouver Island for about two years when they again came east to St. Paul, Minn, where they ran a boarding house for a while. Then they went to Dakota County Minn. and lived for a while on a farm. Then they came to Sherburne County, Minn. The couple [inserted above:] ((Mr. & Mrs. H. H. Hibbard)) lived with the parents of Howard Hibbard for four years where Harry William and Anne Marion were born to them. Then they moved to a farm in Haven further north, where Hugh Howard, Nellie Jane, and Jesse Edmund were born. Harry was born Nov. 1, 1877, Annie May 8, 1879, Hugh April 4, 1881, Nell April 14, 1883 [Jesse was born Aug. 16, 1893]. Herman Hibbard had 3 daughters [actually, 4 – one died before Jesse was born] and 2 sons, Effie now Mrs. Stamwitz, Seattle, Washington. Carrie, dead [9 years earlier]. Mabel living in Seattle. Myron, in Chicago. George, in Washington [actually, Minneapolis]. Emily, now Mrs. Herman Marquette [sic, Marquit] living in Stearns County, Minn. [Actually, they lived in Sauk Rapids, Benton County, MN.] Melissa or Mrs. Western [sic, Westurn] living at Spokane, Washington. Harry [inserted:] ((Hibbard)) married a girl by the name of Edith Anderson in Wisconsin. [Edith was from Boscobel, Wisconsin, but they were married in Woodstock, Illinois.] He now lives in Lewiston, Idaho a professor in the Normal school there. Annie, called Mame by the rest, married a man by the name of George Studer and [end of page 2] lives in St. Cloud, Minn. Her husband works for a machine man. They have two boys Howard, aged 5 and Harry aged 2 [and another daughter and son born after this was written]. Hugh married a girl by the name of Emma Gaumnitz, and lives on the old farm still. They were married in June last and have no children [as of 1908, four were born later]. Nell married a man by the name of George Gulde in 1901. They live in St. Cloud, he being a machine merchant. They live in St. Cloud and have 4 children, Leona ((Magdalen))[a] age 6, Evelyn Rose age 4, Lester, age 3 Erwin [Edwin] age 9 months ((got burned, died in Dec. 1908)). Jesse lives a part of the time with Hugh and in the winter with his folks in St. Cloud, Minn, where they moved in the fall of 1906. He attends the ((7th grade)) Union School in St. Cloud.
