[This is an item that my grandfather Jesse Hibbard wrote (and typed) in 1970. My (Al) role was to first transcribe it, next to add corrections or clarifications [within brackets], and then to add links to people connected to me (that gives more information), links to give more information about places, and for those mentioned but not connected, I sometimes added links to FamilySearch.org.]

Strange Incidents, and little tales - J.E.H
1. Once while hunting one Sunday morning, autumn of 1906, I was standing on the bank of a muskrat pond or slough near a muskrat hole. Hearing a little splash I looked down and saw a muskrat swimming under water a few inches and making for the hole. I immediately fired at him, and he rose from the water as if thrown by a spring rising to a height of about ten feet (whirling continually) and dropping in the water about a rod [5.5 yards] from shore. The circumstances frightened me, but I waded out and got the rat, tho he was almost worthless with the front half nearly blown off. I had 3 1/4 drach??? powder and no. 4 shot. Have never found an explanation.
