Wedding Announcement for Virginia Smith and Edmund Hibbard, 1948
Hibbard-Smith Nuptials Spoken
Marriage vows were exchanged September 11 by Miss Virginia M. Smith and Edmund A. Hibbard, Rev. Louis Traufler OSB, reading the service at 11 a.m. at St. Augustine’s parish house.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George J. Smith, Campbell. and the bridegroom, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Hibbard, St. Cloud.
Vivian Smith and Robert Teders attended the couple.
White slipper satin with a net overskirt which was appliqued with satin flowers was worn by the bride. Her veil was held in place by a beaded tiara and she carried American Beauty roses.
The bridesmaid’s gown was of yellow taffeta with a bustle effect and she carried orchid gladiolas.
Dinner was served at the Jess Hibbard home with a reception following for 100 guests. Assisting were Mrs. H. S. [H. L.] Hauskey, Dorothy and Donna Smith, Mrs. Vernon Erickson, Mrs. Melvin Volkenant and Mathilda Baitz.
Asters and gladiolas decorated the home with a three tier wedding cake, which candles and silver coffee service arranged on the bridal table.
For a wedding trip to the north shore drive and Canada, the bride wore a black faille suit with a lapel pin.
Mr. and Mrs. Hibbard are graduates of the St. Cloud State Teachers college and the bridegroom is at present a senior at the University of Minnesota. Mrs. Hibbard teaches at Mound.
After September 20 the couple will reside at 4024 Nokomis avenue, Minneapolis.

Comments: St. Augustine’s is in St. Cloud, on the east side of the river (Benton county). Bob and Joyce Teders were long-time friends of Ed and Ginny. Mrs. Hauskey is Ed’s aunt, sister to his mother. Mathilda Baitz had lived in the Jesse Hibbard home for some time and was incorporated into their family as a child would be. Their address after the honeymoon is where Sylvia and Vern lived (Ed’s sister), but they had an upstairs apartment and shared a common bathroom.
