Family Stories

A potpourri of stories about various family members or events

The Heart is a Lonely Hunter

Yesterday (2020-09-19), I went to the public library to browse for an item. This was the first time I had been in the library since mid-March, when COVID-19 changed things. I checked out a movie called "The Heart is a Lonely Hunter". When I saw the DVD on the shelf, the title sounded vaguely familiar. When I viewed it last night, some parts were familiar. I guess that Marcia and I saw it while we were at Notre Dame, or even earlier in Albany. One takeaway I have from this movie is that it is easy to view those who are not “normal” (from our perspective) as being somehow less human and devoid of emotions. This movie shows this mindset in action, and the participants are blind to this until it is too late. Can we learn from this and appreciate all of those around us?

If you want to learn more about the movie, you can go to https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0063050/. This movie, released in 1968, was based on a book of the same title: The Heart is a Lonely Hunter. The book was published in 1940 and written by a young author with the setting in Georgia in the 1930s.
