[This is an item that my grandfather Jesse Hibbard wrote (and typed) in 1970. My (Al) role was to first transcribe it, next to add corrections or clarifications [within brackets], and then to add links to people connected to me (that gives more information), links to give more information about places, and for those mentioned but not connected, I sometimes added links to FamilySearch.org.]

Strange Incidents, and little tales - J.E.H
3. How well I remember the first duck I ever shot! It was a blue-winged teal. I was standing on the shore of a little pond, Staff's pond [Biggerstaff's, most likely], looking for ducks one fall morning in 1904. I was eleven then. Four ducks rose out of the corner of the pond and started toward the left, passing behind some trees. I waited a few seconds for them to appear, but, not seeing them, I turned in time to see them about to pass in front of me. I raised my gun and fired. The last duck of the line fell with a splash into the water, and started toward the opposite shore. When I got around there he was nowhere to be seen, but, seeing the dog nosing in the grass about four feet from the water, I looked and found it with a wing broken. I carried him home and he was roasted for dinner. He tasted fine, too. I had some shells my brother-in-law gave me at that time, 4 drams powder, No. 3 shot.
