Rites held for Eva Halvorson, 77
The funeral for former teacher Eva Smith Halvorson, 77, of Athens, Texas was held Saturday in Mahnomen. Mrs. Halvorson died April 14, 1981 at Auburn, Washington.
Eva was born February 27, 1904 at Crookston to Mr. and Mrs. Goodale. She worked as an elementary school teacher, living in various places in Minnesota and also in Alaska before coming to Mahnomen in 1957, where she was a fifth grade teacher. She married George J. Smith in Crookston on June 8, 1923, and later married Harry Halvorson on August 28, 1975 at Campbell, Minn. She was member of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by one son, Donald Smith of Pittsburg, Penn.; four daughters, Mrs. Edmund (Virginia) Hibbard of St. Cloud, Mrs. Arthur (Vivian) Ladwig of Des Moines, Mrs. Ray (Dorothy) Neumann of Campbell, Minn. and Mrs. David (Donna) Pomplin of Athens; one brother, Clarence of Sacramento; three sisters, Mrs. Ella Cummings [sic, Cunningham] of Boise, Idaho, Mrs. Mae Gibson of California and Mrs. Lucy Farrer of Kent, Wash.; 20 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband (August 19, 1969) and one sister.
An Eastern Star service preceded the regular service. Rev. Barbara Bullock officiated at the funeral in the Mattson Funeral Chapel. Special music was provided by soloist Merrill Womach. Interment was at Riverside Memorial Park, Mahnomen. Serving as pallbearers were Roger Pearson, George Kremple, Roy Johnston, K.O. Johnstad, Roger Lehne and Milton Hockel. Mattson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Comments: The obituary only mentions one sibling (sister Bessie) that predeceased her, but there were actually two brothers who also died before her. Arthur died in 1965 and Earl died in 1944.
